Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Stormbringer was Hachette's second Age of Sigmar magazine. The UK run was 80 issues, from February 2023 to September 2024. Stormbringer is Age of Sigmar, not 40k, despite the name. It builds Stormcast Eternals against Kruleboyz, then adds Gloomspite Gitz, Sylvaneth, Kharadron Overlords, Ironjawz and a Sons of Behemat gargant.
The run is finished, so the question now is whether its back issues are worth buying. This guide lists every issue and sets the miniatures against the retail kits. It also shows which issues are worth tracking down and which to skip. We haven't subscribed to Stormbringer ourselves. Our first-hand experience is with the Combat Patrol magazine, and the numbers below come from the published issue record and our own catalogue.
The short answer
Was Stormbringer worth it? On the models, clearly. We can price 22 of the 51 miniature releases against the RRP of the same kit today. Those 26 issues cost £246.74 at cover price, against £705.25 of RRP. That's £458.51 saved, or 65.0%, and none of the 22 releases costs more than the models inside it.
Can you still subscribe? No. Issue 80 was the final issue. What's left is back issues.
What should you skip? The 23 paint, brush and terrain issues.
What was it?
- Run: in the UK, issue 1 on 15 February 2023, issue 2 on 1 March, then weekly with occasional skipped weeks. Issue 80 is marked as the final issue.
- Armies: Stormcast Eternals and Kruleboyz from the start, then Gloomspite Gitz, Sylvaneth, Kharadron Overlords, Ironjawz and a gargant.
- Premium tier: four large kits for premium subscribers (see premium kits).
- Price: £2.99 for issue 1 and £5.99 for issue 2. After that it was £8.99, rising to £9.99 from about issue 39. That date is our inference from Sprues & Brews' savings arithmetic, since Hachette didn't publish it.
- Premium surcharge: £2 an issue.
Stormbringer has the best-documented record of the four Warhammer partworks we cover. Hachette's US issue pages are still up for all 80 issues, with the same numbering as the UK. Sprues & Brews also unboxed every delivery. So 78 of the 80 issues in our record are high confidence and the other two are medium.
Every issue and what's inside
Kit names link to their pages on this site, which show every shop we track that sells them in your market. Paint names link to each pot's page. A range like 20-21 is one kit split across the issues in it, and you need every part.
Issues 1-40: Stormcast and Kruleboyz, then the Gitz

| 75 | Orruk Warchanter |
| 76-78 | 2 Stormdrake Guard |
| 79-80 | Swampboss Skumdrekk |
A note on 74-78: Sprues & Brews' final post numbers these one issue off. Hachette's own issue pages put the Guardian Idol at 74, the Warchanter at 75 and the Stormdrake Guard across 76-78, and that's the order used here.
The whole run, in numbers
This is the method from our Combat Patrol record: what the issues cost against the retail price of what's inside. The one difference is that Stormbringer's figures use each kit's RRP in our catalogue today, not the price at the time of the run. That's the fairer test for someone buying back issues now. A part-kit counts as that share of the kit.
| Cover price | Kit RRP today | Saved | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The 22 priced miniature releases, 26 issues | £246.74 | £705.25 | £458.51 (65.0%) |
| The other 29 miniature releases, 31 issues | £285.69 | not priced | see below |
| The 23 paint, brush and terrain issues | £219.77 | n/a | the part to skip |
| All 80 issues | £752.20 |
Why 29 releases aren't priced:
- There are seven Underworlds warbands (issues 10, 18, 28, 37, 42, 56 and 70), and we don't list those.
- The Praetor-Prime (5) is a partwork exclusive.
- Some kits we list have no current RRP: the Knight-Arcanum, Killaboss, Lord-Imperatant, Swampcalla Shaman, Loonboss, Fungoid Cave-Shaman, Branchwych and Sneaky Snufflers.
- For some kits, like Vindictors, Hobgrot Slittaz, Man-skewer Boltboyz, Praetors and Gryph-hounds, we can't be sure how many models the retail box has, so we can't price an issue's share of it.
- The sources don't agree on how many Loonsmasha Fanatics (45) or Grundstok Thunderers (59) come in the issue.
- The Spirit of Durthu, Spite-Revenants, Moonclan Shootas and the Aleguzzler Gargant are awaiting a decision on which kit we list they correspond to.
Leaving these out makes the headline figure smaller, never bigger.
The standout issues:
- Stormdrake Guard (76-78): £29.97 for two, against £82.50 at RRP.
- Gutrippaz (issue 2): ten for £5.99, against £39.50.
- Orruk Ardboys (73): ten for £9.99, against £41.50.
- Stormstrike Chariot (12): £8.99, against £37.
The premium kits
Premium subscribers paid extra for four large kits, delivered with the issues shown. The contents come from Sprues & Brews' first-hand unboxings. FauxHammer's pre-launch guesses (Yndrasta and a Killaboss) turned out to be wrong for the first two.
| Delivered with | Premium kit |
|---|---|
| Issues 15-18 | Krondys, Son of Dracothion |
| Issues 31-34 | Gordrakk, the Fist of Gork |
| Issues 51-54 | Grundstok Gunhauler, 3 Skywardens, Aetheric Navigator |
| Issues 67-70 | Dankhold Troggboss, 3 Rockgut Troggoths |
The UK surcharge was £2 an issue. At today's RRP the four come to £392: Krondys £110, Gordrakk £92, the Kharadron set £97.50 and the troggoths £92.50. If the surcharge applied to every one of the 80 issues, premium cost £160. Two bonus issues came as well: a Warlock Bombardier (opt-out, billed at £9.99, RRP £22.50) and a Cities of Sigmar Assassin.
Finishing an army from the issues
Stormbringer's armies don't line up with a single box the way Spearhead's do. But comparing its issues with the Spearhead boxes we list shows where a few back issues get you most of a box:
- Kruleboyz: issues 2, 11 and 14 give you the Gutrippaz, Killbow and Boltboyz from the Orruk Warclans Spearhead. That's three of its four kits in three issues. The fourth is the Kruleboyz boss krew (a Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof and a Murknob), which the issues don't include.
- Ironjawz: the Megaboss (68) and 10 Ardboyz (73) are two of the four kits in the Ironjawz Bigmob Spearhead.
- Kharadron: the Thunderers (59), with the premium Gunhauler and Skywardens, are three of the four kits in the Grundstok Trailblazers Spearhead.
The three Kruleboyz issues cost £23.97 at the UK cover price.
Where the issues cover most of a box, the box is often the better buy. You get everything at once, from a retailer, and often under RRP. The cards show today's prices at the shops we track in your market.
Buying back issues
With the run finished, back issues are the only way to get Stormbringer. Work out which issue has the kit you want from the tables above, then look for that single issue.
At the one UK specialist retailer we checked, every Stormbringer listing was out of stock, so most copies now change hands on eBay, often as delivery bundles of four.

Before you buy:
- Multi-part kits need every part. The Stormdrake Guard spans issues 76-78 and the Marshcrawla Sloggoth 20-21.
- The Vindictors are split across issues 3 and 38, five in each.
- Underworlds warbands (10, 18, 28, 37, 42, 56, 70) are complete warbands, and some players want them for Underworlds rather than Age of Sigmar.
- Compare against the kit. A seller asking well over the cover price can make the retail kit the better buy. Every linked kit page shows current shop prices in your market.

If you're buying back issues, you won't have the magazine's paint pots, so the tools are worth getting now:

Precision side cutter for close sprue trimming
Army Painter

Citadel mould line remover
Citadel

Liquid polystyrene cement, capillary applicator, 40ml
Tamiya

Verdict
Stormbringer was a very good-value partwork for its miniatures: at UK prices, 65.0% under UK RRP across the 22 releases we can price. It's also the best documented of the four, with Hachette's own issue page for every one of the 80 issues. The subscription is gone, so buy the issues that carry a whole kit and skip the paint and terrain issues. Where a few issues make up most of a Spearhead box, check the box price before collecting them one by one.
Stormbringer magazine FAQ
Is Stormbringer 40k or Age of Sigmar?
Age of Sigmar. Its armies are Stormcast Eternals, Kruleboyz, Gloomspite Gitz, Sylvaneth, Kharadron Overlords, Ironjawz and a Sons of Behemat gargant. Hachette's 40k partworks are Imperium and Combat Patrol.
How many issues were there?
- The UK run went from February 2023 to September 2024, and issue 80 is marked as the final issue. The US edition used the same numbering.
Can I still subscribe?
No. The collection has ended, so it's back issues only.
Where can I buy Stormbringer back issues?
UK specialist stock has largely sold out, so eBay is the main market, often in delivery bundles of four. See buying back issues.
What were the premium kits?
Krondys, Gordrakk, a Kharadron Gunhauler with Skywardens and an Aetheric Navigator, and a Dankhold Troggboss with three Rockgut Troggoths. Details above.
Where do these figures come from?
The contents come from Hachette's US issue pages (all 80 still live), FauxHammer's contents list and Sprues & Brews' delivery-by-delivery unboxings. The savings use Hachette's UK cover prices and the RRPs in our catalogue today, and the arithmetic is our own. We never convert pounds into another currency and call it a local price.
