Frostgrave puts a wizard, an apprentice and eight or so hired soldiers into the ruins of a once-great city buried under ice, competing with rival warbands to loot whatever the frost has preserved. It's a campaign game at heart - your warband carries its injuries, its loot and its growing spellbook from one game to the next, so a figure you paint today might still be on the table a year later. The small scale is what makes it such a good painting project. Ten figures is an achievable, characterful force rather than an army, so most Frostgrave collectors paint every model to a genuinely high standard - robes and magical effects for the wizard, individual character for each soldier - in a way that would be impractical across a sixty-model regiment.
