Hail Caesar Rome and its Enemies

6 box sets · 34 kits we track

The Roman legions and everyone they fought - Carthaginians, Gauls, Germans and Britons among them.

Rome and its Enemies is built around the defining match-up of ancient wargaming: disciplined Roman legions in near-identical kit against the looser, more individual warbands of Carthage, the Gallic and Germanic tribes, and the Britons. It's the largest and best-supported period in the Hail Caesar range, with plenty of plastic kits from several makers. The two sides paint very differently. A legion is a fast, repeatable job of red tunics, segmented armour and a handful of shield transfers or freehand devices that keep a whole cohort visually uniform; the tribal armies opposing them are the more interesting challenge, since a real Gallic or Germanic warband mixed checked cloaks, hair colour and captured Roman kit rather than any single scheme.

On the table: Disciplined, uniform legions holding formation against numerous but individually fiercer tribal warbands - order against ferocity.
