The army-in-a-box route. A Spearhead is a fixed, playable force in one purchase; where we can price both the box and its kits separately, the card says which is cheaper and by how much.

What is Age of Sigmar?

Age of Sigmar is Games Workshop's fantasy battle game: warriors, monsters and gods fought across the Mortal Realms, on round bases and without the movement trays the old Warhammer Fantasy used. Armies are built to a points value and a starting force runs to twenty or thirty models.

It is not The Old World with different rules — the two are separate games with separate ranges, sold side by side. If you came here looking for rank-and-file regiments and square bases, that is the other page.

What does an Age of Sigmar army cost?

Less than a 40,000 army of comparable size, mostly because the armies are smaller in model count — but the same rule decides it: what you pay depends on whether you buy the bundle or the kits. Spearheads are the cheapest complete route into an army, and where we can price the contents separately the card shows the difference rather than asserting one.

Every figure here is what a shop was charging when we last checked it, in the market you are browsing — never a manufacturer RRP dressed up as an offer.

Which army should you start?

On price there is less in it than people expect: almost every army has a Spearhead, and they sit in a narrow band. The real differences are how many models you have to paint and how fiddly they are — a Fyreslayers force is small and simple, a Skaven one is neither.

The scheme generator will build a full recipe for any of these armies in real paints, with prices, before you commit to a box.

Prices were last checked 4 Sep and can change — the retailer's own page always has the final say. Affiliate links — how we make money.
