Airbrush Compressors, Compared

Every airbrush compressor we track, side by side - the makers' own specs where we hold them, and current prices from the shops that stock each machine. 23 machines across 6 brands.

What actually matters

  • A tank, or the pulse. A tankless compressor pushes air straight from the piston, and at low pressure you can feel the pulse in the spray. A tank - even a small handle tank - smooths it out and lets the motor rest.
  • Auto start/stop. With a tank comes a pressure switch: the motor runs to fill the tank, then stops until you have used the air. Quieter, cooler, and far longer-lived than a motor that runs for the whole session.
  • Noise. Quoted in dB, and the difference between painting in a shared room and not. Under 50 dB is conversation-friendly; the diaphragm minis sit higher than the tanked piston machines despite being smaller.
  • A moisture trap. Compressed air condenses water, and water in the paint path spits on the model. Some machines include a trap; for the rest it is a cheap in-line part - the cleaning and air-path shelf has the ones we track.
  • Fittings and outlets. Miniature airbrushes are 1/8 inch BSP; check what the machine ships with before buying an adaptor. Two independent outlets let you keep a primer brush and a detail brush loaded at once.

The full reasoning, with what to buy at each budget: best airbrush compressor for miniatures.

The Spec Table

Maker figures only. A dash means we do not hold that number for that machine - not that the machine lacks the feature. Gaahleri publish theirs on their own product pages; Iwata's and Green Stuff World's are not in our data yet, and we would rather show a gap than a guess.

Where these actually come from

The rails are not the same in every country, and the prices below say so per market. Iwata's range reaches us through Wayland Games in the UK, which is why the Neo Air to Maxx Jet ladder is the deepest sterling choice on the page. Green Stuff World sell their own compressors direct, in pounds, euros and dollars from one storefront.

Gaahleri is maker-direct and priced in dollars - a US supply line for this section, not a UK one: at our last stock check every non-US plug variant of every Gaahleri compressor was out of stock, so we do not pretend they are British supply. Their Serenair kit does reach the UK, through Green Stuff World. Noble Knight is the US rail for Iwata, Badger and Ghost Brush, stock-verified before we list it.
