Harder & Steenbeck Airbrushes

Harder & Steenbeck are the German counter to Iwata, and miniature painters know them for two lines: the Ultra, one of the best-value first airbrushes going, and the Evolution, the modular mid-range workhorse. Their party trick is the self-centring drop-in nozzle — no tiny threaded part to cross-thread during cleaning, which is where most beginner airbrushes die.

The Honest Verdict

The Ultra is arguably the best first airbrush on the market: the nozzle design forgives exactly the mistakes beginners make. The Evolution grows with you — swap nozzle sets rather than replace the brush. Against the Eclipse it is a coin flip on feel; the H&S cleaning experience is friendlier.
