Every army, priced today
The Cheapest Warhammer 40k Army to Start
Every 40k army ranked by what its cheapest start actually costs right now — the lowest live price for each army's cheapest box, across every shop we track. Not RRP, not last year's guess.
Today the cheapest way into Warhammer 40,000 is Blood Angels: Combat Patrol: Blood Angels at €59.99 for 17 models.
Not ranked — no shop we track currently prices a box for: Chaos Daemons, Chaos Knights, Deathwatch, Grey Knights, Imperial Fists, Imperial Knights, Iron Hands, Orks, Raven Guard, Salamanders, Space Marines, Space Wolves, Ultramarines, White Scars. They are listed so the ranking's coverage is honest, not because they are unstartable.
Which army gives you the most for your money?
Entry price and value are different questions, and the table above answers the first. Measured per point — what you actually field — the spread is far wider than the prices suggest: Blood Angels gives you 100 points for €12.24, against €43.39 for Adeptus Mechanicus — 3.5× the price for the same points on the table. Points come from Munitorum Field Manual v1.2 (2026-08-05), and the column is blank for the 0 armies whose cheapest box we have not sourced points for — we leave it empty rather than estimate it.
How this ranking works
"Start" here means the army's cheapest currently-priced box — usually its Combat Patrol. We compare the live price at every shop we track and rank on the lowest. We deliberately don't estimate what a full 2,000-point army costs: those figures are guesses, and every one you'll read elsewhere was stale the day Games Workshop changed the points. What we do instead is give you the exact price per point for the boxes we can source, so you can scale it yourself.
