Tyranids

A migratory alien swarm that consumes whole worlds - endless small creatures directed by towering bio-constructs.

Tyranids are the purest horde army in the setting and the one with the strongest single identity. Everything is grown for a purpose: swarms of Hormagaunts and Termagants, mid-sized Warriors, and enormous Carnifexes and Tyrants that steer the whole hive mind by instinct. The great advantage for a painter is that there is no uniform, no heraldry and no chapter to obey - just a carapace colour and a flesh colour, repeated across every model in the swarm. That makes a striking scheme achievable with two or three paints and a wash, which is exactly what you want when facing sixty gaunts. The big monsters then reward as much effort as you care to give them.

On the table: A horde army with monster support - overwhelming numbers of cheap close-combat creatures backed by very large beasts.
