Space Marines who are also master craftsmen - green armour, black skin, and a preference for flame and melta at short range.
The Salamanders are the most humane of the chapters, unusual among marines for caring about the civilians in the way. Their homeworld's volcanic culture makes them artisans, so their gear is hand-made and their squads carry more flamers and meltaguns than anyone else's. Deep green armour with gold and brass detailing is an attractive, forgiving scheme, and the chapter's dark skin and burning red eyes give every bare head a striking focal point. Their craftsman theme is a licence to convert - individually detailed weapons, forge-marks and personal heraldry are entirely in character rather than an indulgence.
On the table: A durable, short-ranged marine force built around flame and melta weapons rather than long-range fire.
