Magnets & Pin Vices

The head query here is a specification question, not a shopping one: what size magnet fits a miniature. The usual answer for infantry-scale arms and weapon options is a small disc a couple of millimetres across, seated in a hole drilled with a hand-held pin vice — and the part everyone gets wrong once is polarity, because a magnet glued in the wrong way round cannot be reversed without destroying the joint.

The Honest Verdict

Buy magnets in one size and stick to it; a drawer of mixed sizes is a drawer you cannot use. A pin vice with a spare set of small bits is a lifetime purchase and costs less than most single kits, and it does pinning duty as well as magnetising.
